When Pete Dye created the Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island, he put Sea Pines on the map, and cemented his place as a fixture of golf course design. The Pete Dye Room in the Harbour Town Golf Links clubhouse honors the life and work of Pete Dye and his wife, Alice, and how his unique approach to golf course creation has created a legacy of incredible courses at the Sea Pines Resort and around the world.
The exhibit tells the story of Pete and Alice Dye’s lives and their work, exploring their approaches to golf and design and examining many of their courses, particularly Harbour Town Golf Links. Three short films bring to life Pete Dye’s life in golf, his top holes, and Harbour Town. An augmented reality ‘sand’ table invites visitors to discover how grading and elevation affects a golf course, and an animated SmithCo. Tractor immerses visitors in the work of the golf course builder. The exhibit celebrates a great golf course designer and builder, and the golf course that started it all.
