The atrium experience at Beacon Children’s Hospital in South Bend, IN is a unique landmark of the hospital which allows kids to simultaneously play and learn, inspires parents to encourage creative and educational activities in their children after they leave the hospital and evokes a deep respect for nature.

Located inside the Beacon Children’s Hospital, the space allows pediatric patients and their siblings a place to enjoy nature, spend time with their family, work on physical therapy and get out of the usual hospital environment. Several types of activities use sight, sounds, touch and motor skills to engage kids with nature.

The main floor features a large-scale oak tree sculpture to explore, scope stations to find animals, touch and sound quizzes and natural percussion instruments. The balcony includes many of the same activities centered around a treehouse.
